PetersburgPhilharmonicasthebestinallofRussia.
TheRNOhasaconsiderablefollowingintheUSthroughitsregulartoursoverthepastdecadeanditsmanyrecordings.
But,forthefledglingRNOWindQuintet,theFebruarytour,whichincludesvenuesontheEastCoastoftheUSandattheBermudaFestival,isanattempttocrackthedifficultnutthatistheNorthAmericanchambermusiccircuit.

There,thefivemusicianssetaboutrehearsingand,whenitcametimeforbreak,spokeabouttheirmusicandtheirupcomingtouroftheUSandBermuda.
Intherealmofchambermusic,awindquintetthatbringstogetherflute,Frenchhorn,clarinet,oboeandbassoonhasalonghistoryandcandrawfromanextremelyrichreper-toire,includingnumerousarrange-mentsofpieceswrittenforfullorchestraandfordifferentlyconfig-uredchamberensembles.
TheRNOWindQuintethasalreadyexploredalargepartofthestandardrepertoire,rangingfromMozartandBeethoventosuch20thcenturycom-posersasArnoldSchnberg,FrancoisPoulencandGeorgyLigeti.
Buttheyhavealsobrokenloosetofindmusicthatisdistinctlytheirown.

"Wewanttoplaynewmusic,"saidbassoonistSnegirev,at31thequintet'soldestmember,"becausewethinkitwillattractrealinterestinwhatwearedoing.

DaveBrubeckhasalonghistoryofcollaboratingwiththeRNO,andbothBrubeckstouredwiththeRNOlastyearintheUnitedStates.
