7:20-7:40 Students arrive.There is no one to supervise the children any earlier. For yourchild’s safety,please do not drop off yourchild earlierthan 7:20 A.M.

7:20 Busesbegintounload

7:40 Schoolbegins (Students entering the building after the tardybell must besigned in.) Students must be in the building for breakfast by the tardy bell-

7:40. Students signed in late will not receive breakfast at school.Dailyschedules begin promptly at 7:40.

2:10 Walkers and day care students are dismissed.

2:15 Pryme Tyme and parent pick-up students are released. Buses begin loading.Pryme Tyme before and after school day care,offered by the YMCA, is available daily for a fee,beginning at 6:30 A.M.and ending at 6:30 P.M. If interested,please contact the YMCA at368-9622.

MONEY SENT TO SCHOOL

All money should be sent in a labeled envelope. Please send the correct amount. The schooldoes not carry change,and it is a real problem trying to make change for large bills.Please beaware that all money for fundraisers,pictures,etc. is due in the front office by 9:00 a.m.on

the de adline date.De adlines are firm,and mo ney bro ught in after de adlines will not beaccepted.

MORNING DROP OFF

Students are not allowed in the building before 7:20 A.M.Vehicles should stay in single filewhen entering the driveway.Students should not be allowed to stand on the porch or be leftonthe porch before 7:20.

A staff member will be standing on the front porch to greet you and signal students to come in at

7:20 A.M. Students are to remain in their vehicles until signaled by the staff member.

Students are not allowe d to cross the drive way unatte nded.

Vehicles should stay in line and not cut in front of other vehicles. Students riding the bus forgifted classes must be dropped off at 7:20 A.M.The bus leaves Lyman Hall at 7:30.Students who walk to school should arrive no earlier than 7:20 A.M. Please plan theirdeparture from home to coincide with this arrival time. Students will enter through the back ofthe building and cross the bus ramp where there is a staff member on duty(outside E wing).AFTERNOON PICK-UP

There is one lane of traffic for student pick-up. Staff members will escort students to the vehiclefor the parents.Parents will be issued four identification cards which will be used to help staffmembers escort the students to the appropriate vehicle.If you lose the ID cards,thereplacement cost is$1.00.You will need to display the card in your window or show the cardto our staff members who are supervising students on the front porch.Please be aware that if youdo not have the card,you will need to park in the parking area and you will be required to showpicture identification in the front office in order to pick up your child. If you are allowingsomeone else to pick up your child,please make sure that individual is given one of the cards.Otherwise,normal checkout procedures will be used,and school officials will only releasechildren to persons listed on the child‟s registration card. If you need to change the names listedon the registration card,please come to the school to make the necessary adjustments.There willbe no exceptions made to this procedure.

Students being picked up will wait on the front porch.Removing items from book bags,horseplaying,and loud talking are not allowed.

It is important for parents to remember to stay in their vehicles and not get out. Leaving thevehicle unattended causes traffic to backup. If there is a problem,we ask that parents pull intothe parking area for assistance.Students are not allowed to leave the porch without adultsupervision.Please do not call your child to come to you. Please pick your child up on time. Itcan be very upsetting to the children when they are left waiting to be picked up. Students mustbe picked up by 2:25 p.m.

Send a note to the teacher if someone new is picking up your child.Also,a note should be sentto the teacher if the child is going home a different way than usual or is getting off at a differentbus stop.All transportation changes should be made before 1:45 p.m.and must beapproved by an administrator.NO CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION WILL BEMADE OVER THE PHONE OR FAX!

WALKING STUDENTS TO CLASS

Parents will not be allowed to walk their child to c lass in the morning.Parents ofkindergartenstudents can walk their child to class ONLY on the first week of school.

VISITOR PARKING

Please use the designated visitors‟parking area.Do not park in front of the school building; it isa“No Parking”fire lane.

RELEASE OF STUDENTS

Student safety is an area that the Liberty County Board of Education takes very seriously. Inorder to increase our safety measures,we will no longer allow students to be picked up fromschool by anyone not listed on the student registration card by the parent.During the school year,if you need to change the names listed on the registration card,please come to the school tomake the necessary changes.There will be no exceptions made to this procedure.We are unableto process changes received by fax or phone.Anyone listed onthe card must show a picture I.D.before a student will be released.

DRESS CODE-UNIFORMS

Please refer to the Liberty County School System Code of Conduct bookfor the studentdress/uniform code adopted by the Liberty County Board ofEducation. Students should notwear ripped or torn clothing/uniforms to school. Ifpurchasing lanyards,please purchase abreak-free lanyard for safety reasons.

Please refer to the Liberty County School System Code of Conduct Book.

TRAN S POR TA TI ON

Students who ride a Liberty County School System bus must ride the same bus for the morningand afternoon route.A parent of a kindergarten student must be present at the bus stop to receivehis/her child in the afternoon.All kindergarten students will be returned to the school if a parentis not at the bus stop to receive the student.Please refer to the Liberty County School SystemCode of Conduct Bookfor additional information.The telephone number to transportation is369-6654 or 369-6674.

SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS

We encourage school volunteers but parents can not volunteer in their child‟s classroom. Feelfree to call the school (368-3348)at any time if you wish to volunteer and ask to speak to theprincipal,assistant principal,or curriculum coordinator.Volunteers must be dressedappropriately for the school setting and must have a background check.Volunteers must keepschool and student information confidential. It is inappropriate to gossip about a student‟sproblems,etc. in the community. P lease be respectful o f confidentiality.

SCHOOL VISITATION(in compliance with LCBOEpolicy))

The Liberty County Board of Education and Lyman Hall are mindful of its obligation toprotect students and staff and imposes the following guidelines and res trictions on visitorsin the schools:

1.School principals are charged with the control of the school buildings and grounds under theirjurisdiction and supervision.

2.Only parents or legal guardians are authorized to set up parent conferences with sc hoolperso nne l.

3.Only parents or legal guardians are allowed to observe in the classroom where theparent‟s/guardian‟s child is in attendance.Before an observation can occur, the parent/guardianmust obtain 24-hour prior approval from a school administrator.Once approval is obtained, theadministrator will arrange a date and time for the observation.The administrator will alsoarrange for a school employee to escort the parent/guardian to the classroom and remain withthem throughout the observation.C lassroom observations are limited to 20 minutes and may berequested only once each semester unless federal regulations require different procedure s.Parents cannot bring other children into the classroom.During the classroom observation period,cellphones must remain in the“off”position and are not allowed to be used.

4.All persons visiting in the school or on the school grounds are required to report to the schooloffice for permission to remain on campus.School activities planned for special occasions duringthe school day and after hours where parents and community residents are invited are notincluded under this requirement.All visitors must be appropriately dressed for the schools e tting.

5.Any person failing to leave the school or school grounds after being asked to by the principalor designee may be referred to law enforcement.

6.When visitors report to a teacher‟s classroom, the teacher should check to ascertain thatvisitors have a legitimate purpose for being on the school campus and they have received officeclearance. (LHE policy–all visitors will wear a visitor‟s label.)

7.A photo ID maybe required for checking out students from school.

8.Pre-K and Kindergarten students are allowed to be walked to class during the first week ofschool by the parent/guardian.After the first week of school,parents/guardians must follow theclassroom observation guidelines stated above.

Visitors in the building should dress appropriately for the environment. Clothing shouldnot be too tight and revealing,or oversized and baggy. Proper undergarments must be worn andnot visible. Sheer garments, low cut dresses,blouses or shirts (those that reveal cleavage)are notappropriate.Visitors dressing improperly are a disruption o f the learning environment and they

CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES(In compliance with LCBOEp o licy)

Pagers/cell phones/communication and other electronic devices:The Libe rty Co unty Scho olSystem prohibits the use of electronic devices, including cellular phones,during the schoolday hours of 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.

Cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off and not in us e during thespecified school day hours.Having cell phones turned on or in use during the specifiedschool day hours will be considered a violation of Libe rty County Board of Educationpolicy JCDAF and shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.All electronic devices,including cell phones,cameras,and games systems,will be confiscated if turned onor in use during the school day hours.All confiscated electronic devices may be picked upat the school by the parent after the specified time listed below for each offense.

Pre-K-Grade 12

1st Offense—7 school days

2nd Offense—10 school days

3rd and Subsequent Offenses—14 school days

All students shall be prohibited from using any electronic devices during the operation of aschool bus, including,but not limited to,cellular phones,pagers,audible radios, tape or compactdisc players,game systems,or any other electronic device that might interfere with the schoolbus communication equipment or the schoolbus driver‟s operation ofthe schoolbus.

Liberty County Schools/District will not be responsiblefor investigating or replacing/reimbursingfor lost or stolen communication devices.

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

School officials will only release children to persons listed on the child’s registration card.The office staff may ask for identificationbefore a child is released. Please let your child‟steacher know how your child will get home in writing. The office staff should be notified ifthere are any court documented custody problems that might result in the school mistakenlyreleasing your child to an inappropriate person.Your child should have a thoroughunderstanding about persons with whom he/she should not leave the school. Parents need tocome into the office to sign their child out if he/she is leaving before 2:00 p.m.or the student willbe sent home their regular way.

Students are not allowed to go home via another method from their norm without a note fromhome. Please make your afternoonplans before your child leaves in the morning for school.Children will go home by their normal mode of transportation unless written notificationhas been provided.There will be no transportation changes made over the phone or fax.

This policy is to protect the safety of our students.Please make certain that any person who picksup your child has his/her name onthe emergency card and has a picture I.D.Please rememberthat early dismissal ofa child on a regular basis is a classroom interruption and a disservice toyour child‟s education.

If your child has a doctor‟s appointment or other necessary responsibility that cannot bescheduled outside the instructional day and he/she must be signed out early,please write a notein the morning to the teacher.Your child will not be released from class until you arrive andsign him/her out in the office. Students will not be called out of class ahead of time to wait for aparent in the office area. If the teacher is forewarned by note, it should not take long for yourchild to arrive in the o ffice.

CHANGE OF PHONE AND/OR ADDRESS

If you change your address or telephone number at work or at home,please notify the schoolimmediately.Our office must be able to get in touch with you in the event that your childhas an accident or becomes ill at school.We cannot stress enough the importance of atelephone number where parents CAN be reached during the day.

WI THD RAWALS

If a student is to be withdrawn from school,parents should come to the school office to completethe required withdrawal form at least three days prior to the student‟s last day.A copy of thewithdrawal form will be provided so that the new school can request ALL student records in atimely manner. Please see that your child turns in all school property and money owed.SCHOOL CONFERENCES

We encourage parent-teacher conferences.You may request a conference with the teacher bysimply calling the school office and leaving a message for the teacher to call you(368-3348),byemailing the teacher,or by writing a note to the teacher. Ifa conference is requested by theteacher,please respond as quickly as possible. Conferences will not be scheduled on Mondayafternoons which are reserved for faculty and grade level meetings.

EM ERGENCY DRILLS

A fire drill will be conducted at least once a month.A tornado/severe weather drill will beconducted once during the school year. Emergency/lockdown drills must also be conducted eachse me s ter.

WLHE is Lyman Hall‟s television broadcasting program produced by Mrs.Anderson,our mediaspecialist and homeroom class.Each morning the broadcasting team will highlight importantnews,conduct the pledge,moment of silence,and announce the breakfast and lunch menus.WEB ADDRESS

INSTRUC TION AL S UPPLIES

Textbooks are provided by the State of Georgia and the Liberty County Board of Education.When state textbooks, library books,or school property are damaged, the student will be chargeda replacement fee designated by the State of Georgia. If new books are damaged, full price willbe assessed. Report cards will be held if a student owes for lost or damaged books.

HOMEWORK

Homework is assigned nightly in each classroom(Grades K-5). It is important to assist the child,but not to do the work for the child.Helping your child each night will ensure that he/she has abetter school day.Reading together each night will increase your child‟s achievement in school.Research shows that reviewing school material right before bedtime helps with theretention of that information and helps to commit it into long te rm me mory.

BREAKFAST and LUNCH

Please refer to the Liberty County School System Code ofConduct Book “The Liberty County Board of

Education Policy Handbook states that the sale offoods and beverages ofminimal nutritional value,as definedin thefederal school and breakfast regulations, isprohibited on schoolpremisesfrom the beginning oftheschool day through the end ofthe last regular lunchperiod Foods ofminimal nutritional value includecarbonated beverages,candies with minimal nutritional value,and water ices.Outsidepurchased food otherthan a prepared sack lunchfrom home isprohibited.”

Extra sale items are available to purchase when the child passes through the serving line. The studentmust have a meal in order to purchase any extra sale items. The student may pay cash or use their mealaccount to pay for the extra sale items. These may include:water,extra milk,extra juice,extra entrée,and other nutritious a la carte items.

Each class is assigned a specific lunch period and is responsible for leaving their dining area clean andpleasant for the next group. Soapy water,dishc loths,brooms and dustpans are available for cleaning.The monitors will assist in cleaning.

Students must use ins ide voice level to ensure that the noise level in the cafeteria is appropriate.Studentswho continue to exhibit excessive noise while in the cafeteria will be subject to silent lunch detention, inwhich they will be isolated during lunch time.

CHEWING GUM/CANDY/SNACKS

Chewing gum is not allowed on campus at any time. There is no need for students to bringcandy, snacks (unless requested by teacher)or gum to school. These acts are punishable with anoffice discipline referral.

SCHOOL SUPPLY VENDING MACHINE

Notebooks,pencils,and erasers are available for sale in the vending machine outside of themedia center. Items and prices are as follows:

Notebook $.75 Pencils $.25 Erasers $.25MEDICATION

Please refer to the Liberty County Board ofEducation policy in the Student Code of Conductbook. Lyman Hall‟s school nurse is Heike Estis. She can be contacted at 368-7310.

SCHOOL HEALTH

To ensure that your child is physically,mentally,and emotionally healthy, it is important thatstudents get a nutritious breakfast and at least 8 - 10 hours of sleep each night. It is veryimportant that parents provide the school with pertinent health information if problems orillnesses develop. Telephone numbers and contact persons need to be current so that the parentor designee can be reached at all times.All information is kept confidential.

LICE

Head lice can be a problem in schools. Students who have head lice will not be permitted to stayin school or return until they have been properly treated. Liberty County schools have a nitfree policy.

TOYS

Students may bring only items or supplies which are utilized for school purposes.Any games ortoys, such as headphones,radios,playing balls or any other personal items used for recreation,will be collected by the teacher or school official and must be picked up by a parent or guardian.LOST AND FOUND

All lost and found articles and moneys are turned in to the office (Clothing is kept in the gym.).On a monthly basis,all unclaimed clothing is turned over to an appropriate agency for use by theunderprivileged.All articles students bring to school should be clearly labeled with thes tude nt's na me.

WELLNESS PROGRAM REGULATION

The Liberty County School System believes that all students shall possess the knowledge and skillsnecessary to make nutritious food and physical activity choices for a lifetime.We believe healthychildren will have greater academic success and lifelong health.This policy encourages and promotesa coordinated effort that involves school staff, students,parents and community members.Candies,cookies,cupcakes or any other empty caloric treat should be avoided.

B IR THD AYS

A treat to celebrate a child‟s birthday may be brought to the school office and it will bedistributed to your child‟s class (and only your child‟s class)at the end of the lunch period.Anyfood item brought into the building must be store bought and have the original,unbroken storeseal on the item.All HOME PREPARED FOODS ARE PROHIBITED. (See Board PolicyWellness Program,Descriptor Code:EEE items 3c and 3d on BOE web page.)ALL food itemsmust be brought to the front office.No drinks! Parents need to notify the teacher in advance.Invitations to private parties will not be distributed at school unless there is an invitation for eachchild in the homeroom classroom.Random invitation distribution is not allowed.

BALLOONS AND FLOWERS

Balloons and flowers will not be allowed in the classrooms. Flowe rs,balloons,etc. should notbe delivered or brought to the school for students.

SLUSHIES

Students may purchase a slushy on a“teacher designated”day. The cost of the slushy is$1.00.This activity is optional,and a class will not be disturbedjust to give a student slushy money.MoneyMUST be sent with student;NO slushy money will be accepted in the front office.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

All homeroom teachers are required by a Lib erty County Board of Education policy statement tohave the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America each morning.A childshall be excused from this activity only if it conflicts with his/her religious beliefs. The„Pledgeof Allegiance‟will be recited during morning announcements.

MOMENT OF SILENCE

Georgia State law mandates that all students shall have the opportunity for a moment of quietreflection each morning. The„Moment of Silence‟will be conducted during the morninganno unc e me nt s.

PHYSICAL ED UCATION

In addition to other subjects, the school is required by the State of Georgia to provide your childwith health and physical education.Unless your child has some physical problem seriousenough for a doctor to request excusal from PE,every student is expected to participate in thisprogram. Excuses to be excluded from these activities must be in writing by a medical doctor or
