Theincreaseincapitalcostsfordifferentbuildingtypesandcertificationlevelsissummarisedinthetablebelow.
ThereportnotestheinclinationtoallocateallcostsrelatedtoBREEAMcreditstothecostofBREEAMbutthata'standardpractice'baselinemustbeusedtoenableanaccuratecomparison.
Forexample,theBSRIAreportexplainshowinstallingbuildingtechnologiesandactiveenergymanagementisbecomingstandardpractice,withlessthan30%ofthesurveyrespondentsdoingthissolelytoachieveBREEAMcredits.
ThemorerecentresearchbyBREandSweettGroup,'Deliveringsustainablebuildings'hasquantifiedthecostofachievingBREEAMcertification,basedonthe2011scheme,fordifferentsitesandbuildingtypes.
Itconcludesthattherearemanysustainabilitymeasuresthatcanbeimplementedforlittleornoadditionalcapitalcost,butwithapositiveeffectonoperationalcosts.

Thesameresearchshowedthatduetothesavingsinoperationalcosts,a2%highercapitalcostcanbepaidbackwithintwotofiveyears.

TheWorldGreenBuildingCouncilreporton'Health,WellbeingandProductivityinOffices'citesfactorssuchasindoorairquality,thermalcomfortandlightingashavingasignificantfinancialimplicationforemployersthroughtheirimpactonstaffproductivityandabsenteeism.
'Staffcosts,includingsalariesandbenefits,typicallyaccountforabout90%ofabusiness'operatingcosts(asthediagramshows).
Itfollowsthattheproductivityofstaff,oranythingthatimpactstheirabilitytobeproductive,shouldbeamajorconcernforanyorganisation.
