Dear Potential Advocate,

Thank you for your interest in Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse and our Volunteer Advocate Training Program for Fall 2009. Volunteers are extremely important to our agency in that they provide advocacy on our crisis hotl ine on the evenings and weekends.Free servicesthatadvocates may provide to cal lers are:advocacy based counsel ing, legal advocacy,medical advocacy, information and referral ,confidential emergency shelter,and 24-hour crisis intervention.

Please complete the Volunteer Advocate Appl ication Form and the Volunteer Advocate Program

driver’s l icense and car insurance before meeting with the Volunteer and Intern Coordinator to discuss the program.A$10 fee is required to payfor the Idaho criminal background check,and we are requesting a$20 donation toward ATVP’s training program formaterials. If this is a problem,don’t let it stop you from volunteering!

An updated schedulewith locations, times and presenters wi l l be avai lable on-l ine. Advocates accepted into the training program must attend al l trainingsat thescheduled times,and complete an exit interview before they can be approved to work with cl ients.

After the advocate is approved for work with cl ients, they wi l l have opportunities to:

*provide crisis intervention on the 24-hour crisis hotl ine;

*assist with in-person cl ient service del ivery;

*assist ATVP with outreach activities;and

*undertake special projects as mutual lyagreed upon, including internships.Please be aware thatouradvocates make a time commitment to our agencyof three hotl ine shifts per month for at least one year. Updated car insurance and driver’s l icense are required as wel l as 30 hours of ongoing training.Advocates are encouraged to participate in other activities within the agency according to their interests.
