ukor07490691430Page1of10Whatyouneedtoknow:TheseinstructionsexplainhowtousetheSSCAdatasubmittedbyyourstrokeservicetodownloadlistsofyourhospital'spatientswhomaybesuitablefortheRESTARTtrialonthebasisthat:a)Theyareaged≥18yearsnow.
b)ThelatestdataextractforSSCAindicatesthattheyarestillalive.
NBthisisretrospectivedata,itisimportanttocheckuptodatepatientrecordstoconfirmpatientstatus.
c)Theyhadintracerebralhaemorrhage(ICH).
d)Theyareatleast24hoursaftersymptomonset.
e)TheyareregisteredwithaGeneralPractitioner(GP).
f)TheywerenotreportedtobetakinganantiplateletoranticoagulantdrugafterICH.
Therearetwodifferentreportscalled'InpatientsReport1'and'InpatientsReport2',bothofwhichmaycontainsuitablepatients.
ThefirstcontainspatientswhohavesufferedahaemorrhagicstrokeandmayhavebeenonantithromboticdrugsatthetimeofICH.
ThesepatientsaremostlikelytobesuitableforRESTART.
ThesecondcontainspatientswhohavesufferedahaemorrhagicstrokeanddonothavearecordofantithromboticdruguseatthetimeofICHbutstillmaybeeligibleforRESTART.
Pleasebeaware:asSSCAdoesnotcollectALLoftherequireddataforRESTARTeligibilitycriteria,youmayfindthatthereisahighproportionofpatientsincludedinthereportsthathavenotbeenonantithromboticspriortotheirstroke;youalsomaycomeacrossasmallnumberofpatientsthathaverestartedantithromboticsalready,and,asitisretrospectivedatatheremaybealargenumberofpatientsincludedthatarenowdeceased,thereforeitisimportantthatcurrentpatientrecordsarecheckedbeforeanycontactismade.
Pleasewouldyou:1)InvolveamemberofstaffwhoisabletoextractreportsfromtheeSSCAdatabase.
2)AdheretoyourHealthBoard'sInformationGovernanceprocedures.
3)Followtheattachedinstructionstoproducethetworeports(thiswillneedtobecompletedbytheeSSCAauthoriseduser).
4)Startwiththefirstreport,andthenmoveontothesecond.
5)Checkthateachpatientisstillaliveandlikelytobeeligible-usingthepatient'smedicalrecords,orcontactwiththeirgeneralpractitioner,beforecontactingthem.
6)Contactpatientswhomaybeeligibleusingthetemplatelettersprovided(thatmaybesentbythepatient'shospitalconsultantortheirGP),whichhavebeenapprovedbytheresearchethicscommittee.

TakeanextractofallthepatientsfromyourHospitaland/orHealthBoardbyusingtheSSCAdatabase.
