Intermsofsize,itexpandedfromanetworkofnetworksconnectingjustoveramillioncomputersintoaglobalnetworkconnectingmorethan2billionpeopleinnearlyeverycountry.
Intermsofsignificance,theInternethasgrownperhapsevenmore—enablingpeoplearoundtheworldtocollaboratewithcolleagues,communicatewithfriends,andconnectwithfamilymembers.
And,asthe5billionpeoplewhoarenotyetonlinebegintousetheInternetinthecomingyears,theInternetmustcontinuetoevolveinbothresiliencyandvitality.
Likewise,theInternetSocietycommunityhasgrownenormouslyoverthepast20years,andoursharedvision—thattheInternettrulyisforeveryone—hasneverbeenmoreimportant.

Nearly400participatingorganisationsenabledIPv6ontheirmainservicesfor24hours,demonstratingthatmajorwebsitesarewellpositionedforthemovetoaglobalIPv6-enabledInternet,enablingitscontinuedrapidgrowth.
AkeygoalofthiseffortwastoexposepotentialissueswithIPv6useunderreal-world(butcontrolled)conditions.
Inrarecases,usersexperiencedimpairedaccesstoparticipatingwebsitesduringthetrial;however,thevastmajorityofuserswereabletoaccessservicesasusual.
AsecondarygoalwastoincreaseawarenessofIPv6deploymentamongvariousaudiences,includingindustryleaders,policymakers,andthegeneralpublic.

Since1997,hehasplayedaleadershiproleinthedevelopmentofpoliciesallowingformoreopennessoftheInternetinTunisiaandacrosstheArabregion,despiteoppositionandcensorshipfromthegovernment.
PriortotheTunisianuprisingthatevolvedrapidlyintotheregion-wideArabSpring,theflowofonlineinformationwascontrolledandcensoredbyTunisia'sBenAliregime.
Thegovernmentbasicallyownedandcontrolledthecountry'sInternetecosystemandcensoredabroadswathofwebsitecontent.
Indeed,manyofthecountry's"cyber-activists"riskedseverepunishmentatthehandsofthesecretpolicewhenevertheytriedtocircumventthesecontrols.
Then,inDecember2010,26-year-oldMohamedBouaziziself-immolatedinprotestoutsideTunisiangovernmentoffices.
Onlyadecadebefore,thegovernmentwouldhavequicklymovedtocensornewsofsuchaprotest.
Butinstead,Bouazizi'sactofdefianceandtheproteststhatfollowedwerecapturedonmobilephones,andtransmittedviasocialmediasitesacrossTunisia.
EnabledandempoweredbytheInternet,TunisiansusedFacebook,TwitterandYouTubetodistributethevoicesofactivistsandprotestors.
Indoingso,theysetinmotionaseriesofeventsthatinlessthanamonthtoppledthecountry'srepressive,decades-longregimeandintroducedalevelofpersonalfreedomunknowntomillionsofpeople.
