GabapentinMSFnoticestheproposalofInternationalAssociationfortheStudyofPain(IASP),NeuropathicPainSpecialInterestGroupoftheIASP,andInternationalAssociationforHospiceandPalliativeCaretoincludegabapentinintheWHOModelListofEssentialMedicines,asananalgesicmedicineforthemanagementofneuropathicpain(centralandperipheral)inadults.
Neuropathicpainiscommonlyassociatedwithpost-surgicalpain,HIV-AIDS,herpeszoster,diabetes,backpain.
MSFwouldliketodrawtheattentionoftheExpertCommitteetothefollowingpoints:-Forthetreatmentofneuropathicpain,onlyamitriptyline,recommendedasfirst-linetherapy,isincludedintheWHOModelListofEssentialMedicines(section2.
