McCarrollalsosaidthattheremainingmembersoftheresearchteamhaveundertakentraininginethics.
Nooneelseontheteam,includingleadprofessorMichaelCho,hasbeenaccusedofwrongdoing.
ISUsinvestigationwasclosedafterHanresigned.
HansignedaconfessioninSeptemberandagreedtobebannedforfiveyearsfromparticipatinginresearchfinancedbytheNationalInstitutesofHealth.
TheRegisterhasbeenunabletoreachhimforcomment.
Caplansaidtherehavebeenafewcriminalprosecutionsforresearchmisconductinvolvingtrialsofnewdrugsonpeople.
Butsuchprosecutionisalmostunheardofincasesinvolvinganimalresearch,hesaid.
TheNationalInstitutesofHealthawardedtheteam$19millioninresearchgrantsoverseveralyears,includingwhentheresearchersusedtoworkatCaseWesternUniversityinOhio.
